Public Restrooms at the Waianuenue end of town

We need more public restrooms in Downtown Hilo. Kalakaua Park, liholiho Park, or anywhere else that might work on that end of town… Hilo’s oldest, most historic municipal area should have adequate facilities. When the Federal Building and the Public Library are CLOSED, there’s no where to “go” on that end of town.

  • There are a number of composting toilet systems that are not smelly and cost way less than flush systems. We need to stop dumping sewage into Hilo Bay!

  • I like the idea of a restroom at Liholiho Garden. That also would accomodate the festivals at Kalakaua Park. I agree that a restroom out at Bayfront Parking Lot would be good. Hmmmmm. . .  two luas? Please? :-)

    1. I’d like to make this project one of “our” priorities, Leilehua is right on in mentioning the benefits of having a public restroom at Liholiho that can service and encourage more festivals and events in Kalakaua as well as the uptown community!  It costs at least $300 for portable toilets each  time we hold an event at Kalakaua Park, add it up!  Ditto for Mooheau Park/bayfront!

More toilets means a cleaner Downtown as well as gives incentive for events people to do more activities here!

    5. Liholiho Garden was suggested at the last Public Safety Committee meeting for a restroom.

    6. I agree wholeheartedly.  There was also a request for a toilet by
the Bayfront parking lot (where hotel workers park).

    7. ALTERNATIVE SUGGESTION: anywhere on the Waianuenue end of town… it doesn’t have to be Kalakaua…
