Intimate Live Music Venue

like (32) 32 people liked this

Hilo needs an intimate live music venue with a bit of cultural atmosphere and tickets sold for admission, versus having it randomly in places that are akin to being in a cafeteria, moved to a corner in a restaurant, or having to wait for a special outdoor event. How about one with dinner seating and a permanent elevated stage like in the image below?

There’s just too much great music in Hawaii to be heard on any given night, that we simply don’t have a venue to experience on a regular basis.

  • I think this is a great idea. Any promoters in mind? Once a venue is found who/what would manage it? While I think this is a wonderful idea I especially like the suggestion that it is kept small and quaint. Keep Hilo from turning into Kailua,
    Waikiki or Lahaina.

  • What about where the old McDonalds used to be, above Sack N Save on Haili Street?

    1. The nice thing about this idea is that it would encourage impromptu hula dancing and music, like the old days of Hawaii.  It would be cool to see the Kupuna ukulele groups hang out there, as well as halau that could do hula…good exposure for the students and enjoyable for the crowd..win-win and promotes a part of our culture that Hilo seems to have lost.

    2. I agree, the last few weeks I’ve heard some great music and had fun at the HIlo Tavern.  They have a variety of music genres to!  Bayfront Kava Bar is always a great relaxing place to go as well.  I like them both it’s nice to have variety.

    3. I kind of feel like we don’t give enough support to the music venues we already have. There is a lot of fantastic music played in this town. When I used to play out, the owners of the venues were very supportive of me. I’d like to give it back. Let’s pack the Kava Bar first, and make them so successful they’ll have to open a second venue in the old Masonic Hall!

    4. A suggestion:  The old Kaikodo building.  Parking available across the street is ample and the venue is historic and a part of Old Hilo.

    7. Great News! The Bayfront Kava Bar is this venue. Let’s regularize it, let’s support it, and let’s help “kava Dave” continue to make it happen!

    9. Aloha Neil,
What an idea! this is exactly what I had been talking about with some friends of mine this past year.  There is a need for more music venues in Hilo.  I like the cafe idea, but I would like to see more ‘hang out’ area, with comfy seating and bigger tables.
      Best,
      Katie
