A community center for Downtown Hilo means….

… a space for meetings, gathering and talking story.
… information about development in Hilo and having the opportunity
to dialog, ask questions and get involved.
… a public bulletin board with “what’s going on inHilo”
… activities and classes (like cooking/baking, dancing, singing,
computer) with family, friends and neighbors.
… new friends and playmates…

  • We could combine this project with the Youth Center project. The youth wouldnt use the center during school hours anyway. I think that if both places would have similar resources avalible there, then it would be very reasonable to make it all at one place.

    1. Love the idea of combining Youth Center with Community Center!  Would be good to have a resource library and data base of community-based visioning ideas, cultural and historical preservation information and resources (human, financial, organizational, etc.).  Center would serve as an incubator for Downtown projects and small businesses based in the youth culture…so many ideas!
Library could also  house EDH 2025 documents and be a good location for VisionKeepers and/or DIA offices.

    3. The former Bank of Hawaii might be good. Has some parking. The State is only using part of it.
